TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The University of Tokyo said Monday it selected Yuko Fujigaki as its next president to succeed Teruo Fujii, making her the first woman to lead Japan's top academic institution.
Fujigaki, 64, a professor affiliated with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, has expertise in science and technology studies. Her six‑year term will begin in April.
