The University of Colorado Denver has become the first public American university authorized to establish a campus in India, with the first cohort of students expected to begin their studies in August 2027.

CU Denver has received a letter of intent from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) to open a base in Hyderabad, making it the first foreign university to launch in the state of Telangana in south‑central India.

The university would also be the first public American institution to launch on Indian soil. A private institution, the Illinois Institute of Technology, welcomed its inaugural cohort of students to its campus in Vikhroli, Mumbai, this year.
