The United Kingdom will charge universities $1,200 per international student, including those from Nigeria, Kenya, India and Pakistan, targeting $594 million in revenue in the first year

From August 2028, universities in England will be required to pay an annual levy of £925 per international student beyond an exemption threshold of 220 students.

This charge applies to institutions recruiting from countries such as China, India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Bangladesh, and concerns both new students and those already enrolled.

Although students do not pay this levy directly, universities could increase tuition fees for international students in order to recoup their costs, which would influence their future pricing strategies.
