At a time when economic sectors are changing rapidly and digital technologies are penetrating every sphere of life, new challenges are emerging for education systems. Higher education must nurture a generation capable of developing ideas, making scientific discoveries and creating innovative solutions that contribute to the development of countries.

From this perspective, taking cooperation among the Turkic states in higher education, science and innovation to a new level is of particular importance. Our countries are united by a shared history, closely related cultures, spiritual values and traditions of mutual understanding.

The 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, scheduled to take place in Ankara on 29–30 October this year, is also important for advancing this cooperation, strengthening mutual trust and identifying new opportunities for promising initiatives. On the eve of the summit, it is timely to reflect on the challenges facing higher education in the Turkic states, the opportunities available and the directions for future cooperation.

From a Shared History to Shared Development

The centuries‑long history of the Turkic peoples is closely intertwined with the development of education, crafts, trade and cultural ties. Great thinkers, scholars and intellectuals from the Turkic world have made significant contributions to the development of world civilisation. Their scholarly legacy continues to serve as an outstanding example of the pursuit of knowledge, freedom of thought and enlightenment.
